Omaha, North Dakota Split Summit League Doubleheader

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha dropped a 4-1 decision in game one but rallied for a 10-8 win over North Dakota in the second to split a Summit League softball doubleheader on Saturday at Westside Field at Westbrook.
The Mavericks (3-28, 1-4) and Fighting Hawks (16-23, 1-1) are scheduled to close out the series at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 31. Links to live stats are available on OMavs.com.
Omaha 10, North Dakota 8 (game two)
Omaha broke a 16-game losing streak with the victory in game two. North Dakota scored twice in the top of the second to take the early 2-0 lead. The Mavericks responded with five runs in the bottom half of the frame. Janae Cameron and Lexi Burkhardt hit back-to-back doubles to make it a 2-1 game. After a pair of strikeouts, Sydney Schelkopf scored on an error to tie the game. After a walk, Emma Dargy doubled to center to put Omaha in front 4-2. Following a pitching change, Jamie White hit the Mavericks' fourth double of the inning to drive in Dargy for a 5-2 lead.
UND added a run in the top of the third, but UNO responded with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, Cameron hit a shot off the center field fence to drive in two more. Burkhardt then added another double as the Mavericks charged ahead 8-3.
North Dakota cut the gap to 8-5 in the top of the fifth as Angel Love and Jocelyn Kirk got one out hits. Victoria Minor singled to left to bring home Love, and Kayleen Schneider hit a sac fly to score Kirk.
Omaha extended the lead to 10-5 in the bottom of the fifth. White stroked her two-out single, scoring Mostek and Emily Klosterman.
The Fighting Hawks tacked on three runs in the top of the sixth. Sydney Hampton retired three of the four batters she faced in the seventh to give Omaha the 10-8 win.
Ryanne Millington (2-10) earned the win for the Mavericks, while Hampton picked up her first save of the year. Millington allowed nine hits, struck out two and walked one. White collected three hits and three RBI to lead Omaha at the plate. Burkhardt, Cameron and Dargy each had two hits and two RBI.
Nikki Pica, Emily Rosas and Jannay Jones pitched for North Dakota with Pica picking up the loss. The trio combined to strike out seven and walk four.
North Dakota 3, Omaha 1 (game one)
In the opener, Jannay Jones (8-8) struck out seven batters and allowed one run on four hits.
The Fighting Hawks got on the board in the top of the third. Jailene Carpio hit a two-out double and advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on Deja Miller's single.
North Dakota pushed its lead to 3-0 with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth.
Omaha made it a 3-1 game in the bottom of the fifth on Mostek's RBI single, but Jones settled down to get a double play to quell the Maverick comeback attempt. UNO put runners on base in the sixth and seventh innings, but they were unable to push across the tying runs.
Halley Jones (0-6) took the loss for Omaha. Jones struck out two, allowed three hits and walked one.
