
Softball Suffers Extra-Inning Loss to North Dakota

Leaders for Omaha
Janae Cameron went 4-for-5 at the plate with a double, a run scored and four RBI. Ā Alexa Sedlak finished 1-for-4 with two walks, a run scored and three RBI. Ā Janae White went 3-for-6 with an RBI and two runs scored. Ā Emma Dargy finished 3-for-5 with two walks and three runs scored, while Emily Klosterman went 2-for-6 with two RBI.
Halley Jones (0-7) took the loss in relief, allowing eight runs (two earned) on 11 hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Ā Starter Sydney Hampton allowed five runs (three earned) on five hits and four walks. Ā Ryanne Millington gave up five runs on eight hits and a walk in 2.2 innings of work.
Leaders for North Dakota
Leadoff hitter Jailene Carpio went 5-for-8 with a double, two runs scored and four RBI. Ā Victoria Minor finished 3-for-7 with a triple, two runs scored and four RBI. Deja Miller went 4-for-8 with a double, triple, scored twice and drove in three.
Nikki Pica (4-9) picked up the win in relief for UNO. Ā Pica allowed three runs on four hits and five walks in 7.2 innings of work. Ā Starter Jannay Jones allowed nine runs (seven earned) on 12 hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
How It Happened
Omaha took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Ā Dargy and White each hit one-out singles to put runners in scoring position. Ā Cameron drove an RBI single to center field that moved White to third and scored Dargy. Ā White scored on Sedlak's sacrifice, and Cameron came in on Lexi Burkhardt's RBI single.
North Dakota exploded for six runs in the top of the second. Ā Minor led off with a walk and went to third on Kayleen Schneider's double. Ā UND loaded the bases when Alyssa Rios was hit by a pitch. Ā Omaha pitchers then walked two straight batters to make it a 3-2 game. Ā The Fighting Hawks tied the game on an Omaha error. Ā Jocelyn Kirk hit a two-out, two-run single to left to make it a 6-3 game.
The Mavericks responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame. Ā Lexi Burchfield hit a two-out infield single and moved to third on Dargy' base hit. Ā A passed ball allowed Burchfield to scamper home and moved Dargy to second. Ā White lined a single down the left field line to bring home Dargy to cut UND's lead to 6-5.
UND scored a pair of runs in the top of the third and added another in the fourth to lead 9-5 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.
Omaha scored four times in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game. Ā Pinch hitter Madie Otte hit a one-out single and moved to second on another Dargy hit. Ā The Mavericks loaded the bases when White got hit by a pitch. Ā Cameron hit a two-run single to score Burchfield, who ran for Otte, and Dargy. Ā Sedlak tied the game at 9-9 with a two-run single up the middle.
The game remained tied until the top of the eighth inning. Ā Kirk opened the inning with a double and moved to third on an error. Ā Rios hit a sac fly to left field to put UND in front 10-9. Ā Omaha fought back once more in the bottom of the frame. Ā White opened with a single to left and scored on Cameron's double to right center. Ā The Mavericks had runners on first and second with one out, but the Fighting Hawks got a double play to end the threat.
North Dakota added two runs in the top of the 10th forcing Omaha to rally once again. Ā Sierra Leonetti was hit by a pitch and Sedlak drew a walk to open the inning. Ā The duo moved up a base on a sacrifice. Ā Klosterman hit a two-run single that knotted the game at 12-12.
The Fighting Hawks put the game out of reach in the top of the 13th inning by scoring six runs on seven hits and an error.
