Mavericks Make West Coast Trip This Week

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha track & field team will compete in three meets in California this week.
On Thursday, April 18, the Mavericks will take part in the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate at Long Beach State. Also starting on Thursday, they will compete in the two-day Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific. Three runners will be competing in the 5,000 meters at the Cal State LA Twilight Open on Thursday.
The Mavericks are coming off action at the KT Woodman Classic at Wichita State last week.
Jaycee Schettler highlighted the weekend with a sixth-place finish in the heptathlon with a wind-aided score of 4,115, a remarkable 759 points higher than her previous best.
Schettler, competing on Wednesday and Thursday, put up lifetime bests in three of the first six events of the heptathlon. That set her up for one more PR, a time of 2:44.95 in the 800 meters that was more than 11 seconds faster than her previous best.
In other action on the track, Annie Catania took seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 2:28.58. Lauren Houston was fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 59.61.
Anita Jenkins was UNO's top finisher among six runners in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:53.56.
In the field, Anna Edet took third in the hammer throw with a mark of 157-04 (47.96).
Following their trip to the coast, the Mavericks will head to Iowa next week to compete in both the Drake Relays on April 25-27 and the Kip Janvrin Open at Simpson College on April 25-26.
