Mavericks Earn NABC Team Academic Excellence Award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Omaha men's basketball team has earned the Team Academic Excellence Award presented by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), the organization announced Thursday.
The award recognizes outstanding achievement by teams with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better for the 2018-19 academic year. All teams in NCAA Divisions I, II and III, the NAIA and NJCAA are eligible.
The Mavericks, who combined for a 3.11 team GPA, were among 40 Division I programs to receive the recognition.
"We're very proud of our team's academic accomplishments," head coach Derrin Hansen said. "Their hard work, along with our assistant coaches who recruit these young men, should be commended. (Senior Associate Athletic Director) Lindsey Ekwerekwu and her team in the Hamilton Academic Excellence Room play a vital role in working with our student-athletes on a daily basis, helping make this part of their lives very successful."
The Team Academic Excellence Award is Omaha's second since the honor's creation six years ago, joining the 2013-14 Maverick squad.
