Hehnke Signs With Texas Rangers Organization

OMAHA, Neb. – Former Maverick pitcher Cal Hehnke has signed a professional contract with Texas Rangers organization. Hehnke will report to Phoenix to play for the AZL Rangers in the Arizona Rookie League.

"I am extremely grateful for the chance to live out my dream," said Hehnke. "I am excited to get after this opportunity."

The right-hander recently capped off his Maverick career with Summit League Regular-Season and Tournament Championships and helped the program achieve a berth to the NCAA Los Angeles Regional. Hehnke garnered Second Team All-Summit honors as the Mavericks' main closer and earned an Academic All-Summit award. In 2019, he went 4-2 with a 4.96 ERA. His 23 mound appearances set a single-season program record.

Hehnke's 12 career saves rank fifth all-time, in which he bolstered seven in his senior campaign, which set a Division I-era single-season record.Â
