Mavericks Picked Seventh in NCHC Preseason Poll

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Omaha hockey team has been picked to finish seventh in the annual National Collegiate Hockey Conference preseason media poll.
The Mavericks received 53 points in the voting, behind Colorado College and ahead of Miami. That matches the position the three teams finished the 2018-19 season. This is the third straight year the Mavericks have been picked to finish seventh.
Two-time defending NCAA Champion Minnesota Duluth was picked to win the NCHC for the second straight year, earning 218 points and 23 first-place votes. Denver was chosen second with 178 points and two first-place votes. Western Michigan earned three first-place votes and 156 points to come in third. The complete poll appears below.
The poll is a prologue to the 2019 NCHC Media Day which will be held at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. on Thursday, Sept. 19. All eight of the conference's head coaches and player representatives from each school will be on hand for interviews. NCHC Commissioner Josh Fenton also will give his annual State of the Conference address.
Fans can take part in NCHC Media Day through two social media opportunities. The players will be a part of a Twitter Takeover of the NCHC's account from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. CT. Omaha captain Dean Stewart will take his turn at the keyboard at 10:15 a.m. using the hashtag #NCHCAskDean.
Later, Stewart and UNO head coach Mike Gabinet will take part in a Facebook Live event at 12:30 p.m. (@TheNCHC).
The NCHC begins its seventh season on Saturday, Oct. 5 with five games including one regular season series between Denver and Alaska Fairbanks. The other four games are exhibitions.
The Mavericks begin play with an exhibition home game against Manitoba on Monday, Oct. 7 at 7:07 p.m. They'll follow with a non-conference series against Alabama Huntsville of the WCHA on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 11-12 at Baxter Arena.
