Hall Leads Mavericks at Nebraska

OMAHA, Neb. — The Omaha cross country team competed in the 2019 Woody Greeno/Jay Dirksen Invitational on Saturday.
The meet took place at the Mahoney Golf Course in Lincoln where the Mavericks placed 10th.
Sophomore Heidi Hall led the Mavericks with a time of 18:53.6 over the 5k course. She finished 35th overall.
"Heidi Hall ran a great race to take the top finishing position for us," said cross country head coach Cliff Cisar. "She didn't leave any doubts out there and was aggressive from the get-go. I'm very proud of her effort.
"Today was a little bit of a gut check day," Cisar added. With our top runner, Emily Johnson out with an illness, that created an opportunity to see how the rest of the team would respond and compete.
"I think we competed well together for the first 2500 meters and then we could see the fatigue start to set in. We learned a little more about ourselves today, and we will get back to work to keep improving."
Junior Joanna Topham was second on the team and 59th in the field of 184 runners with a time of 19:34.6. Ivanna Uribe was third in scoring, running a time of 19:53.0 and finishing 77th overall.
Raegan Andersen ran a time of 20:00.3 finishing fourth for UNO and 80th overall. Senior Anita Jenkins was right behind in 82nd with a time of 20:02.0.
Also running for the Mavericks in the second meet of the season were freshman Maya Nachtigal, and sophomore Emily Robles. Nachtigal ran a time of 20:27.2, placing 101st, while Robles followed with a time of 20:33.0 finishing 112th overall.
The Mavericks will return to action to compete in the Joe Piane Invitational on Friday, Oct. 4 at Notre Dame.
