ELKHORN, Neb. – Sophomore Josh Peters led the Omaha men's golf team to a fourth-place finish at their own Maverick Invitational at The Creek on Tuesday at The Club at Indian Creek.
The tournament featured 27 holes each day. The teams played the back nine of the second round on Tuesday followed by the third round.
The Mavericks were divided into an "A" and "B" team. The A team finished with a score of 913 for the 54-hole event. Bellevue won the tournament with a score of 872. North Dakota State was second at 893, and Morningside was third at 894. The B team was sixth with a score of 968.
Peters was sharp on day two of the tournament. He shot even-par 72 in the second round and then posted a 73 in the final round for a total score of 221, good for seventh place.
Freshman Jacob Zerby was second on the team and tied for 16th overall with a score of 229. He closed off the second round with a score of 79 and shot 75 in round three. That put him one stroke ahead of teammate Josh Bartels who tied for 18th with a score of 231. He had a personal tournament low score of 74 in the middle round before posting a tally of 80 in round three.
Mathew Halvorson had a score of 76 in round two and shot 81 in round three for a total of 233, good for a tie for 23rd.
Carter Doose concluded the scoring for the A team with matching rounds of 81 to put him at 241.
The B squad got a sharp performance from Noah Hartman who posted UNO's second best score of the tournament at 225 to tie for 12th. He shot 73 and 75 over the final two rounds.
Phoomintr Kaewvichien (238/30th), Preston Cedergren (252/37th) and Jack Tickle (264/42nd) also competed for the Mavericks. Patrick Ravn withdrew after the first round.
The tournament is the last scheduled fall event for the Mavericks.
