Mavericks Announce 2020-21 Non-Conference Schedule

OMAHA, Neb. -- Following the earlier release of several individual game dates, the Omaha men's basketball program announced its slate of 2020-21 non-conference games on Wednesday.

The Mavericks open their 10th Division I campaign on the road next week over Thanksgiving weekend at the #BeachBubble at the Gulf Coast Showcase, Nov. 25-27. The tournament's full field includes their first-round opponent Austin Peay, Abilene Christian, Akron, East Carolina, East Tennessee State, Indiana State and Middle Tennessee.

The Mavericks return to the city of Omaha for a crosstown clash with Creighton (Dec. 1) at the CHI Health Center, then hit the road again that weekend for SIUE (Dec. 5).

The following Friday takes Omaha to vaunted Allen Fieldhouse to face Kansas (Dec. 11). The Mavericks then take on a challenging back-to-back swing to Colorado (Dec. 16) and Wyoming (Dec. 17) before breaking for the holidays.

A final road trip to Kansas State (Dec. 29) closes the non-conference schedule before Summit League play begins at home, Jan. 2-3.

"We're looking forward to our non-conference schedule to not only test our team but also build toward our January and February conference slate," head coach Derrin Hansen said. "Starting in a tournament format against opponents we've never played three days in a row will strengthen our ability to prepare for a postseason setting.

"We also have our first regular-season game with Creighton since 1995, which will raise a lot of local interest. Our final four games to complete non-conference are challenging venues we're already familiar with, and by the end of 2020 our goal is to understand our team and our roles as we head into Summit League play."

Hansen enters his 16th season leading the Maverick program, toting a career record of 243-215. Omaha returns eight letterwinners from the 2019-20 squad, including reigning Summit League Defensive Player of the Year Matt Pile and Summit League Sixth Man of the Year Marlon Ruffin.
