OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha hockey team is ranked for the first time this season, coming in 18th in the latest top-20 poll from USCHO.com.
The Mavericks picked up 170 points in the voting of 40 coaches, journalists and others from across the country. Â
The Mavericks are coming off a 2-2-0 week to start the NCHC Pod at Baxter Arena. They opened with a 5-3 loss to No. 3 Minnesota Duluth before beating Western Michigan, 10-2, and Miami, 2-1 in overtime. They finished the week with a 5-3 loss to No. 13 St. Cloud State.
The Mavericks have received votes in the USCHO.com poll for several weeks, but this is the first time they have appeared in the top 20 since the week of Dec. 2, 2019 when they also were ranked 18th.
The NCHC is well represented in this week's poll. North Dakota holds down the top spot while Minnesota Duluth (3) and Denver (9) join the Mavericks and St. Cloud State. Western Michigan also is receiving votes.
Omaha also is receiving votes in the USA Today/USA Hockey top-15 poll for the first time this season, earning 35 points in the voting by another panel of coaches and journalists.
The Mavericks return to action in the pod on Wednesday, Dec. 9 when they take on Colorado College at 7:35 p.m. They will be the designated away team for the game.
