OMAHA, Neb. -- The Omaha men's basketball team has earned its second straight Team Academic Excellence Award presented by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), the organization announced Thursday.
The award recognizes outstanding achievement by teams with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better for the 2019-20 academic year. All teams in NCAA Divisions I, II and III, the NAIA and NJCAA are eligible.
The Mavericks combined for a 3.23 team GPA to receive the recognition.
"We're proud of our team's commitment to academic success, and the hard work put in by our players over the last year should be praised," head coach Derrin Hansen said. "(Senior Associate Athletic Director) Lindsey Ekwerekwu and her academic success staff, as well as our coaching staff, play a critical role in guiding our student-athletes on a daily basis, and this recognition would not be possible without their efforts."
The Team Academic Excellence Award is Omaha's third since the honor's creation seven years ago, joining the 2013-14 and 2018-19 Maverick squads.
