GLOUCESTER, Mass. – The American Hockey Coaches Association announced that eight Omaha hockey players were among a group of 574 male and female Division I players named Krampade All-American Scholars.
To be eligible for the honor, student-athletes must have attained a 3.75 grade-point average for the fall semester and participated in 40 percent of their school's games. A small number of waivers were granted to the participation rule for injured players and back-up goaltenders.
The Mavericks named to the list include seniors Ryan Jones and Zach Jordan; junior Martin Sundberg; sophomores Travis Kothenbeutel, John Schuldt and Jason Smallidge; and freshmen Josh Boyer and Jacob Zab.
It is the third time Jordan has earned the honor and the second time for Sundberg, Kothenbeutel and Schuldt.
"These are exceptional individuals," said AHCA executive director Joe Bertagna. "The sport demands a great deal from these athletes so it is a great statement they make, individually and collectively, with their ability to attain this level of academic achievement while contributing at the NCAA Division I level."
The Mavericks tied with North Dakota for most All-American Scholars among the eight NCHC teams. AIC led all Division I men's teams with 19 honorees. Brown was second with 17 and UMass Lowell was third with 14.
