Head coach Carrie Banks announced former DePaul standout Jacqui Grant as assistant coach for the Maverick women's basketball program July 31, 2020.
Grant was previously the video coordinator of coach Doug Bruno's staff at DePaul for the 2019-20 season.Ā
Grant played her first two collegiate seasons at Illinois after a highly successful high school career at Maine South. She transferred to DePaul and played her final two seasons with the Blue Demons.Ā
"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to join the Omaha staff and assist Coach Banks in creating a successful culture on and off the floor," said Grant. "Coach Banks is someone I've looked up to since I've wanted to become a collegiate coach. Her ability to connect, recruit and coach players with such enthusiasm and positive energy is infectious and something that fans will recognize and appreciate. I'm excited to get on campus to meet the team and start my journey with the Maverick family."Ā
Grant joined the South Florida women's basketball program in November 2017 after finishing her undergraduate degree at DePaul , where she played for Hall of Fame coach Doug Bruno. She assisted with the day-to-day operations both on the court and behind the scenes, assisting coach Jose Fernandez and his staff with recruiting tasks, game statistics, video operations, travel and on-court duties. Grant brought a wealth of collegiate playing experience after spending two seasons with the Blue Demons.
She was the BIG EAST Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2017 and started in all 35 games for the Blue Demons. As a senior, she led the BIG EAST in blocks and joined the 1,000-point club for her career. Grant earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors as a senior in 2017. The 6-foot-3 inch forward averaged 11.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
"I am thrilled to welcome Jacqui to Omaha," said Banks. "She has a tremendous work ethic, great energy and a high basketball IQ. She comes to us after spending three years at two top-25 programs and I am excited for her to bring that expertise to Omaha. Jacqui was an exceptional college player and is a proven winner. Her combination of experience playing at the highest level along with her ability to relate to student-athletes is a perfect fit to complete our coaching staff. She will work primarily with our post players and I look forward to seeing their growth under her leadership."Ā
Grant was a two-time member of the BIG EAST All-Academic Team, and a two-time member of the Big Ten All-Academic Team. As a junior, she earned DePaul's Shirley Becker Academic Award and Pat Ewers Unsung Hero award. She was a four-year starter at two major programs in Illinois.
She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in physical education from DePaul and South Florida.Ā
