Sep 25, 2020 | Men's Golf
OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha men's golf team will begin a pandemic-shortened fall schedule at the Zach Johnson Invitational at Drake on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 28-29.
The 54-hole event begins with 36 holes on Monday at 8:30 a.m. at the Glen Oaks Country Club in West Des Moines, Iowa. The final round begins at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
The Mavericks return four players from last season including sophomores Josh Bartels, Phoomintr Kaewvichien and Josh Peters; and senior Patrick Ravn.
Peters finished third in team scoring in 2019-20, behind graduated seniors Witchayapat Sinsrang – UNO's Male Athlete of the Year – and Nick Kagy. Peters posted a stroke average of 75 while playing in all seven events. His best finish came at The Joust at Goose Creek in February when he tied for ninth with a score of 218. He was one stroke better at 217, a career best, at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational in October.
Bartels was fourth on the team last season with a stroke average of 76.8 while playing all 21 rounds. His best finish came at the SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational in September when he shot a six-over total of 219 to finish in a tie for 29th.
Kaewvichien was fifth on the team, playing in 19 of 21 rounds and posting a stroke average of 78.2. His best outing also came at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational when he shot a one-under score of 215 to finish in a tie for 26th.
The Mavericks currently have one other fall tournament on the schedule, hosting the Maverick Invitational at The Creek on Oct. 12-13 at The Club at Indian Creek in Elkhorn.
