Women's Basketball Selected Eighth in Preseason Poll

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Omaha's women's basketball squad was tabbed eighth in the 2021-22 Summit League Preseason Poll, the league announced Tuesday afternoon. The preseason poll and awards were tallied in a vote of the league's head coaches, sports information staff, and media.
South Dakota is the preseason favorite collecting 20 of the 38 first-place votes, while South Dakota State sits second with the remaining 18 votes. North Dakota State and Kansas City complete the top four at third and fourth, respectively.
Denver sits in fifth place followed by Oral Roberts and Western Illinois. North Dakota and St. Thomas round out the bottom of the poll at ninth and tenth place, respectively.
The Mavericks posted a 7-13 finish last year with a 4-8 record in Summit League play. Omaha upset top-seeded SDSU in the first round of the conference tournament. They went on to beat Western Illinois in the quarterfinals and fell to South Dakota in the championship game.
Head coach Carrie Banks enters her second season leading the Mavericks. She carries a 7-13 career record into the 2021-22 campaign.
