Berg Named NCHC's Rookie of the Week

Omaha forward Cameron Berg was named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference's Rookie of the Week on Monday following his performance in a road series against Alaska over the weekend.
The freshman from White Bear Lake, Minn., recorded three goals and an assist as the No. 9 Mavericks swept the Nanooks in nonconference play at the Carlson Center. He played a key role in both wins.
Berg's power-play goal in the third period of Friday's opener ignited a four-goal outburst that gave the Mavericks (11-3) a 5-2 win. He also scored an empty-netter in the closing seconds to cap the victory.
In Saturday's finale, Berg opened Omaha's decisive three-goal first period by scoring 8:03 into the game. He also recorded a secondary assist on Brock Bremer's first goal, which ended up as the game-winner.
Berg has six goals, which ranks second on the team, and three assists through 13 games in his first collegiate season. He's the first Maverick to win the NCHC's Rookie honor since Bremer did in February.
Omaha has a bye week before returning to conference play against Colorado College at Baxter Arena on Dec. 3. The Mavericks remained at No. 9 in this week's USCHO.com poll while moving up one spot to No. 9 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Rankings. Omaha's 11 wins are tied for the most in the NCAA.
