No. 10 Omaha to Face Colorado College in Final Home Series of 2021

No. 10 Omaha retuns to National Collegiate Hockey Conference play and to Baxter Arena this weekend as it welcomes Colorado College to town. The teams will meet at 7:07 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
The Teams
Omaha, in its 25th season of hockey, has recorded one of its best starts in program history by winning 11 of its first 14 games. The Mavericks were idle last week after posting a sweep of Alaska on the road the week before. Omaha is riding a three-game winning streak as it returns to NCHC play this weekend.
Colorado College has five one-goal losses and three ties in the 12 games it has played. The Tigers have been off since Nov. 13, when they skated to a scoreless tie on the road with current No. 1 Minnesota Duluth. One of Colorado College's two wins came on the road at then-No. 10 Boston College, 5-3, on Oct. 22.
The Coaches
Mike Gabinet is in his fifth season as head coach of the Maverick and has posted a 65-72-11 record at his alma mater. The 2004 Omaha graduate served as an associate head coach during the 2016-17 season before being elevated to the head coach position in 2017-18.
Gabinet returned to Omaha after four seasons at the North Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) in Edmonton, Alberta, the last as its head coach. That season, he led the Ooks to a 36-0-0 record and the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference Championship. He was named the conference Coach of the Year and became the first rookie head coach in Canadian college hockey to guide his team to an undefeated record.
Gabinet, a standout defenseman for the Mavericks from 2000-04, is assisted by Dave Noel-Bernier (Omaha, 2001) and Paul Jerrard (Lake Superior State, 1987).
Kris Mayotte is in his first season as the head coach at Colorado College after spending 10 years as a Division I assistant and associate head coach. He spent two seasons at Michigan after five years with Providence.

The Mavericks and Tigers initially met in the opener of the 2006-07 season in Anchorage, Alaska, at the Nye Frontier Classic. They then played a few times from 2010-13 before both became charter members of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference, where they've battled annually in league play.
Omaha holds a 24-10-5 advantage all-time against Colorado College and has dominated the series in the past couple of years. The Mavericks have won nine of their last 10 games against the Tigers, including the last six in a row. All six of those games were played last season, when each team hosted a series after the teams met twice at the NCHC Pod at Baxter Arena in December.
