PHOENIX, Ariz. – Junior Noah Hartman shot back-to-back even-par rounds to lead the Omaha men's golf team on the first day of play at the GCU Invitational.
Hartman carded matching scores of 71 through the first 36 holes of the 54-hole event. That put him at 142 and in a tie for 14th in the 93-player tournament. The matching scores of 71 are a career best.
As a team, the Mavericks shot teams scores of 294 and 286, the top two team rounds of the season, for a total of 580. That has them ninth in the field of 15 teams. The second-round score is tied for 10th-lowest in school history.
Host Grand Canyon leads the tournament with a score of 568, one ahead of Eastern Michigan. Wichita State is third at 572.
Josh Bartels is second on the team and tied for 40th overall with a total of 146. He opened with an even-par score of 71 and came back with a card of 75. He's one stroke ahead of teammate Jacob Zerby who shot 77 in round one and came back with a team season-low round of 70, one under par, to put him at 147. He's tied for 53rd.
Mathew Halvorson carded rounds of 77 and 71 for a total of 148. That has him six over par and good for a tie for 59th.
Josh Peters finished the scoring for the Mavericks with cards of 75 and 74 for a total of 149. That has him in a tie for 68th.
