The Mavericks will face Denver in the NCHC Frozen Faceoff Quarterinals on Saturday, March 13 in Grand Forks, N.D. The two teams split their four-game season series.
Mavericks To Face Denver in NCHC Quarterfinals

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The 2020-21 National Collegiate Hockey Conference regular season came to an end on Saturday and with it, the match-ups for the quarterfinal round of the 2021 NCHC Frozen Faceoff fell into place. The Omaha hockey team, the No. 4 seed in the tournament, will face fifth-seeded Denver on the second day of the tournament.
The opening day of the Frozen Faceoff will feature the top two seeds in the tournament. The first quarterfinal on Friday, March 12 has No. 2 seed and eighth-ranked St. Cloud State taking on No. 7 seed Colorado College at 2:37 p.m. CT. Penrose Cup champion and top-ranked North Dakota is the No. 1 seed and faces eighth-seeded Miami in the nightcap at 7:37 p.m. CT.
Day two of the NCHC quarterfinals will see the 12th-ranked Mavericks battling No. 5 seed Denver in the first game on Saturday, March 13 at 2:37 p.m. CT. Third-seeded and ninth-ranked Minnesota Duluth will then tangle with No. 6 seed Western Michigan in the fourth and final quarterfinal at 7:37 p.m. CT.
All four quarterfinal match-ups can be seen anywhere worldwide on NCHC.tv, as well as regionally on television on Midco Sports Network. A NCHC.tv Quarterfinal Pass will be available for purchase next week, for those without a current subscription, and provide access to all four quarterfinal games.
The four quarterfinal winners advance to the semifinals on Monday, March 15. Quarterfinal winners will be re-seeded for the semifinals, with game times set for 3:06 p.m. CT and 8:06 p.m. CT. The Frozen Faceoff championship game will then take place on Tuesday, March 16 with puck drop set for 7:37 p.m. CT.
As previously announced, the NCHC will hold its entire championship tournament in Grand Forks, N.D. at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
Both Frozen Faceoff semifinals and the championship game will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network. CBS Sports Network owns the digital rights to the Frozen Faceoff semifinals and championship and offers an authenticated stream here.
Friday's quarterfinal match-ups feature teams that only met twice this season. North Dakota swept both games from Miami in the NCHC Pod in Omaha back in December while St. Cloud State edged CC in overtime in their lone Pod meeting and blanked the Tigers in St. Cloud on Feb. 20.
Saturday's quarterfinal contests pit teams more familiar with each other. Minnesota Duluth and Western Michigan split their four meetings this season, with both teams earning convincing sweeps on home ice. UMD swept in Duluth on Jan 23-24, while the Broncos swept in Kalamazoo on Feb. 12-13. Omaha and Denver halved their four meetings this season as well, splitting their first series in Omaha on Jan. 23-24, while Omaha won the series finale in overtime on Feb. 6 to get the split in Denver.
