Holetz Quiets CU Bats in Series Finale

OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha baseball team earned its first win at Tal Anderson Field with a 5-2 victory over Creighton in the series finale on Sunday afternoon.

The win moves the Mavericks to 4-5 on the season while the Bluejays fall to 4-3.

How It Happened

Creighton took a 1-0 lead off an RBI single in the top of the first.
Harrison Denk and Mike Boeve reached on back-to-back walks before Chris Esposito's RBI single to left plated Denk to tie the game in the bottom of the first inning.
A fielding error with the bases loaded on a ball hit by Parker Smejkal brought home Boeve before Brett Bonar grounded into a double play that allowed Esposito to score.
Richie Holetz struck out a pair of CU batters in the third and added two more in the fourth.
Breyden Eckhout began the fourth with a double to left center and later scored on an RBI single by Denk to grow the Maverick lead to 4-1.
Ryan Doran drew a walk in the seventh before Adam Gadsden came in to pinch run for Doran.
Two batters later, Bonar ripped an RBI double to right center, scoring Gadsden and building the lead to 5-1.
Jacob Mohler replaced Jarrett Blunt in the top of the eighth, striking out the side in his first appearance in the new ballpark.
A double and an RBI single scored Creighton's second run of the game in the ninth.
