Sam Mitchell will join the Maverick women's basketball program for the 2021-2022 season.

OMAHA, Neb. ā Head coach Carrie Banks announced the addition of Sam Mitchell to the Maverick women's basketball program on Monday.
Mitchell comes to Omaha after playing two seasons at UAB, appearing in 51 games with six starts.
"I am really excited for Sam to join our Maverick family," said Banks. "First and foremost, she is a high-character individual whose values and work ethic align with our culture."
Mitchell averaged 5.9 points per game in 19 games with six starts. She scored in double-figures in five games, including a career-high 18 points against Middle Tennessee while shooting 6-of-11 from three-point range.
"Sam is a lights out shooter with a high basketball IQ," added Banks. "Her experience playing at a high level makes her a great addition to our team."
The Downers Grove, Ill., native was the only non-starter to appear in all 31 games in her freshman campaign at UAB. Mitchell had a season-high 14 points against McNeese State and helped her team set a single-season school record for three-point field goal percentage (38.1%).
In high school, Mitchell played all four years at Montini Catholic and led her team to a 66-8 mark in her final two years. Mitchell was named to the all-state and Daily Herald all-area teams and was a four-time all-area conference team selection.
