Mavericks Return To Action This Week
Apr 22, 2021 | Track & Field
OMAHA, Neb. – The Omaha track & field team will compete in the Kip Janvrin Open at Simpson College on Friday, April 23.
Competition begins with the field events at 10 a.m. at Buxton Stadium in Indianola, Iowa. Running events begin at noon with the meet scheduled to conclude following the 5,000 meter run just after 8:30 p.m.
The full team has not competed since the Jim Duncan Invitational at Drake on April 9. More recently, a quartet of Mavericks took part in the KT Woodman Multis at Wichita State on April 14-15.
Freshman Roxy Denton led the Mavericks, finishing eighth with a lifetime best score of 4,055. Kylie Johnson was 10th at 3,834, Taylor Ramaekers took 12th with 3,828 points, and Jaycee Schettler was 13th with 3,761. Schettler was a little more than 100 points from equaling her lifetime best while Johnson and Ramaekers, like classmate Denton, both posted lifetime bests. The three freshmen were competing in the event for the first time in their collegiate careers.
The Janvrin Open is one of just three meets remaining on the Mavericks' schedule. They'll travel to South Dakota for the South Dakota Tune Up on Friday, May 7 and then finish the season at the Summit League Outdoor Championships at USD on Thursday-Saturday, May 13-15.
