Both Swimming & Diving Teams Tabbed Fourth in the Summit League Preseason Poll

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Both the Omaha men's and women's swimming & diving teams were predicted to finish fourth in the Summit League Preseason Poll, the league announced Wednesday morning.Â
The women's team earned 13 points in the poll after finishing fourth at the Summit League Championships last spring. The men received 12 points in their debut season.
On the women's side, Denver was tabbed the preseason favorite receiving five of the six first place votes. South Dakota State earned the other vote and sits in second, while South Dakota ranks third. St. Thomas and Eastern Illinois round out the bottom of the rankings.
On the men's side, South Dakota is expected to finish first with 23 points and four first place votes. Denver sits at second with two first place votes, while South Dakota State ranks third. St. Thomas and Eastern Illinois sit at fifth and sixth, respectively.
Omaha freshman Hailey Matthews and Holly Bernardin were tabbed swimmers and divers to watch for the Mavericks. Matthew set the Grandview high school recorded in the 100-back and 200-medley relay as a sophomore. She was also named the most valuable swimmer after setting school records in the 100-backm 200-free and being named the league champion in the 500 free as a junior.Â
Bernardin was named the most valuable diver and placed sixth at the MSHSL Sections in her sophomore season at Rosemount high school. She qualified for start and finished fourth at the MSHSL Sections. She was also voted the most valuable diver as a junior.
Elijah Clements and Isaac Fletcher were tabbed swimmers and divers to watch on the men's side for the Mavericks. Clements swam two seasons at Grand Canyon where he helped a 200-medley relay team to a fifth place finish at the WAC Championships in his freshman campaign. He finished second in the 100-fly and third in the 200-free relay and the 200-medley relay at BYU as a freshman.
Fletcher competed with the Lethbridge Swim Club and was a 2020 Canadian Olympic Swim Trials qualifier. He was a nine-time Canadian Junior National Championship AI-Finalist and a two-time Canadian Western Championship medalist.
