Mavericks Climb Three Spots in Final Round of Fall

Powells Point, N.C.- The Omaha men's golf team completed the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate on Tuesday with a 10th place finish.
After the second round on Monday, Omaha was in 14th place. The Mavericks saved their best for last though, improving by 10 strokes on their second-round mark to finish with a team score of 285 in the third round. That ties the ninth-best single-round team score in program history. Omaha climbed three spots to earn a share of 10th place with Villanova, who also posted a total score of 886 in round three. They fall one stroke behind host Old Dominion, who posted a three-round score of 885 to take ninth place. North Dakota State led the event throughout and took home first place with a team total of 838.
Mathew Halvorson finished in 20th place for the second-straight event and seventh career top-20 finish. The graduate student recorded a 69 (-2) in the final round on Tuesday, adding to his total score of 218. That is his lowest 54-hole score this season. Halvorson sank the second-most birdies among all golfers, totaling 14 throughout the event, including six birdies in the third round.
Nolan Johnson recorded a three-round total of 221 for the second-straight event. The Gretna golfer used five birdies in the third round to post a 70 (-1) and climb to 37th place on the leaderboard. As a freshman, Johnson played every round of the fall season, garnering a stroke average of 74.7 in 15 rounds.
Kurtis Rodriguez earned 44th place after a 72 (+1) in the third round. The sophomore recorded 223 throughout the event. Carter Doose finished two strokes behind Rodriguez with a three-day total of 225. Doose recorded a 75 (+4) in the final round to take 51st place. Tyler Eedy notched his best round of the event with a 74 (+3) in round three. Eedy ends with a three-round score of 242 in his third event with the Mavericks.
The spring schedule has not been released for 2023. This was the last event of the fall season for Omaha's men's golf team. Kurtis Rodriguez led the team in terms of scoring average through the fall with 73.3 in 12 rounds. Halvorson was right behind him with 73.7 in 15 rounds. Carter Doose had the third best average with 74.4 and Nolan Johnson was right behind him at 74.7 through 15 rounds.
