Mavericks Set for Match Play in Mims

Mims, Fla.-- The Omaha men's golf team heads to Florida for the Carpenter-Chaney Classic on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10-11.Â
FORMAT
The Carpenter-Chaney Classic, co-hosted by Morehead State and UT Martin, is a two-day, 54-hole match-play event. The first 36 holes will be played on Monday, with tee times for the first round starting at 6:30 A.M., CST. The second round will follow the first, with tee times starting at 11:30 A.M. The final round tees off at 6:30 A.M. on Saturday.Â
FIELD
Ten teams are divided into two groups, and a champion will be crowned in both. The Carpenter group is made up of four teams, including Bellarmine, Eastern Illinois, Tennessee Tech, and UT Martin. The Mavericks are in the Chaney group, along with Eastern Kentucky, Lindenwood, Missouri State, and Morehead State.Â

- Round one: Omaha vs. Lindenwood. First tee time: 7:12 A.M. CST, Friday, Feb. 10.Â
- Round two: Omaha vs. Eastern Kentucky. First tee time: 12:12 P.M., Friday, Feb. 10.Â
- Round three: Omaha vs. SIUE. First tee time: 7:54 A.M., Saturday, Feb. 11.Â
LINEUP
Six Mavericks are in the lineup for this event and will be matched up against their individual opponents based on the NCAA Match-Play selection process.Â
- Kurtis Rodriguez enters his second spring season after recording the team's best scoring average in the fall. Rodriguez averaged a score of 73.5 through five events and was named a Summit League golfer to watch this spring.Â
- Mathew Halvorson comes into this tournament after playing all 18 rounds in the fall and earning a scoring average of 73.6. The graduate student has finished his last three events in the top-20, recording a score of 69 in one round of each.Â
- Nolan Johnson looks to continue an already impressive freshman season. Johnson recorded five par-or-better rounds in the fall and carries a scoring average of 74.6 into the spring.Â
- Josh Peters will make his 2022-23 debut at the Carpenter-Chaney Classic. The senior missed the fall portion of this season with an injury after leading the team in 2021-22 with a scoring average of 74.2.Â
- Connor Wilson has been a terrific addition to Porter's lineup. The senior transfer from Arkansas State has recorded three par-or-better rounds in three tournaments with the Mavericks this season.Â
- Josh Bartels enters his second tournament of the 2022-23 season. The senior played individually in the Big O Classic in the fall but has battled injuries over the last two seasons. Bartels' last appearance in the lineup was almost a year ago, Feb. 21, 2022 at the Joust at Goose Creek.

Indian River Preserve Golf Club in Mims, Fla. is a par-72 course playing at 7,019 yards. The forecast calls for temperatures in the low 80's, with winds at 10-15 mph.
TIEBREAKERS
- First Tie BreakerÂ
All matches will be played out to the 18th hole. In the event of a 3-3 tie, the most holes won as a team through 18 will be used as the first tiebreaker.Â
- Second Tie BreakerÂ
In the event that both teams are even in first tie breaker (most holes won through 18) we will employ a second tie breaker. The result of the sixth match (last one out for each side) will break the tie. This process will repeat working backwards until a winner is determined.Â
- Tie Breaker to Determine winner of the group in the case of identical recordsÂ
The winner of the group will first be determined by head-to-head. The second tie breaker will be the total number of holes won in all three matches. The third tie breaker will be the total number of holes won for the week in the sixth position, then the fifth position, then fourth, third second and first.Â
NCAA MATCH-PLAY SELECTION PROCESS
The highest seeded team will have the option in the first match of selecting a player for the match or deferring to make the first selection for the second match.Â
After the first match selection an S-curve format will follow for selecting matches 2-6. For example, the team that selects first in match one will pick second in match two, first in match three, second in match four, first in match five and second in match six.Â
Teams were seeded 1-10 based on their Golfweek ranking at the end of the fall season. Seeds 1, 4, 7, and 10 are in the Carpenter group. Seeds 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, and 9 are in the Chaney group. Omaha is currently ranked No. 237, garnering the 5 seed.
