
Mavericks In Lone Star State To Start Spring Season

Omaha, Neb.- The Omaha women's golf team starts their spring season at the Islander Classic Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 21-22.Â
Eighteen teams will be competing in this tournament, including Summit League schools North Dakota and Saint Thomas. Cal State-Northridge, Creighton, Delaware State, Drake, Houston Baptist, McLennan CC, Prairie View A&M, Southern Illinois, Stephen F. Austin, Tarleton State, Texas Wesleyan, Rio Grande Valley, Weber State, and Wofford make up the field. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is the host of this 36-hole invitational that is played at Alamo City Golf Trail in San Antonio, Texas.Â

Jinna Boonbumroongsuk is a golfer to watch, per the Summit League. The sophomore shot two-under for the Mavericks' lowest round-score of the fall at the Stampede at the Creek in Elkhorn. Jinna finished the event 10-over in a tie for fifth place.Â
Mandi Granato is back in the lineup after a strong fall season in 2021. The junior tied for seventh overall at the Creighton Classic and shot her lowest round score of 72 at the Stampede at the Creek.Â
Mika Miyata averaged 79.0 strokes per round in the fall. The junior placed 12th at the Creighton Classic and is looking for her sixth top-20 finish in her second year with the Mavericks.Â
Two freshmen that debuted this fall, Sydney Taake and Emma Kirvan, fill out the rest of the lineup. Taake had a stroke average of 78.3 in 2021, and one top-ten finish at the Creighton Classic. Kirvan averaged 83.3 strokes per round and had a top-20 finish as well.Â
A shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. starts the action both days. The first two rounds will be completed on Monday, with the final round scheduled for Tuesday. Live stats will be available on OMavs.com.Â
