Scanlin Receives NCHC's Weekly Honor

Brandin Scanlin has been named the NCHC Defenseman of the Week.
The junior from Hamilton, Ontario, recorded a goal and two assists Friday as Omaha beat No. 8 St. Cloud State 5-2 at Baxter Arena. He blocked three shots in that game and four more the following night as the Mavericks finished off a series sweep with a 5-1 win on Saturday.
While he hadn't claimed the league's weekly defenseman award previously, Scanlin has been honored by the NCHC throughout his career. He was named the conference's Rookie of the Week during his freshman season and made the NCHC's All-Rookie Team at the end of that campaign. He was honorable mention All-NCHC last season as a sophomore.
Scanlin has recorded five goals and a team-high 24 assists so far in his third season. His 29 total points rank second among the Mavericks, behind Taylor Ward's 33, and fourth among all NCAA defensemen.
