Mavericks Drop 1-0 Series Opener to UNC

For the third time in the last four weeks, Omaha's Friday game ended with a 1-0 score.
This time, however, the Mavericks were the ones who couldn't push a run across the plate.
Omaha (12-15) managed only three hits in a 1-0 loss to Northern Colorado (7-22) at Tal Anderson Field, a result that left the two teams tied for third in the Summit League standings at 4-3.
UNC starter Ian Torpey scattered three hits over eight innings as the Bears snapped an eight-game skid.
The Mavericks had a base runner doubled off second on a line drive in the fourth, one caught stealing in the fifth and doubled of first on a bunt that was popped up in foul territory with no outs in the eighth.
Then Bears reliever Logan Chase got Eddie Satisky to ground into a game-ending double play with the potential winning run on base. Omaha didn't have a hit after a Harrison Denk single in the seventh.
The outcome spoiled another scoreless start by Caleb Riedel, who extended his streak of innings pitched without allowing a run to 26 with five shutout frames. Joey Machado (4-2) suffered the loss in a relief appearance when Northern Colorado recorded three singles, including two with two outs, in the eighth.
Craig Kenny drove in Cade Moeller for the game's only run.
