Omaha Drops Series Opener with SDSU

Eduardo Rosario hit a leadoff homer in the sixth inning Friday that pulled Omaha even with South Dakota State at 2-2 in their Summit League series opener at Tal Anderson Field.
The Mavericks (20-23), however, did little after that, offensively, Friday in a 5-2 loss to the Jackrabbits.
SDSU starter Nic McCay (3-3) and Ryan Bourassa combined to retire 12 of the final 14 batters they faced while the South Dakota State offense added three runs to pull closer to Omaha in the league standings.
The Jackrabbits, now 8-6 in the Summit, scored twice in the seventh to take a 4-2 lead. Ryan McDonald added a solo home run in the eighth to cap the scoring for the SDSU, which finished with 12 hits.
The Mavericks, who fell to 10-6 in league play, grabbed an early 1-0 lead when Harrison Denk beat out a throw to first for an infield hit that allowed Drew Reetz to cross the plate with two outs in the second.
SDSU responded with Reece Anderson's two-run single off Caleb Riedel in the fourth. The Omaha starter had allowed only one run in 26 innings during conference play prior to giving up two on Friday.
Riedel got a no-decision thanks to Rosario's homer. Reliever Joey Machado (4-4) ended up with the loss after Henry George doubled to open the South Dakota State seventh and scored on McDonald's single.
Bourassa pitched three scoreless innings for the save, striking out eight of the last 10 batters he faced. Omaha batters fanned 15 times in the game.
The Mavericks finished with seven hits, two of which were doubles by Mike Boeve, who extended his hitting streak to 19 games.
