Meyer Breaks Strikeout Record In Regular Season Finale

MACOMB, Ill. - Kamryn Meyer broke the single-season strikeout record Sunday morning in the regular season finale at Western Illinois. Meyer finished the game with eight retired batters to notch 260 on the season. She helped Omaha to a 2-1 win over WIU. It's her 20^th win of the year.

The Mavericks finish the regular season 29-12 overall and 17-4 in league play.

How It Happened

The Leathernecks struck first in game three of the series. Muczynski singled to center in the lead-off spot and was batted in by Garcia who doubled to right center. They'd take a 1-0 edge into the third.
Sydney Ross stepped up to the plate and tied the game with a solo blast left center. WIU tallied another hit in the bottom of the inning, but it remained tied after three.
The Mavericks took their first lead in the fourth inning. Ross was hit by a pitch to get on base early for Omaha. She stole second base to get in scoring position. Lynsey Tucker would double to plate Ross later in the inning for a 2-1 lead.
Omaha left two on base in the top of the seventh in an attempt to add a few more runs to the board. Defense stepped up to retire three straight in the bottom half, and the Mavericks win, 2-1.

Ross's homer was her third of the season. She finished 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Omaha.
Meyer earns the win. She is 20-5 on the year.
She recorded eight strikeouts to break the single-season strikeout record. Meyer now has 260 on the season. The previous record was 259 set by Cheris Kuster in the 2004 season.
Meyer is just the second pitcher in Division I history to reach 20 or more wins on the season. The last to do it was Dana Elsasser in 2013. Elsasser's 21 wins that year is the DI single-season record.
Sydney Hampton came in for relief in the sixth. She records the save and retired 2 batters.

The Mavericks will be the No. 2 seed in the Summit League Tournament and receive a first round bye. They will take on the winner of No. 3 North Dakota State vs. No. 6 North Dakota on Thursday, May 12 at 1:30 pm. The tournament will be hosted by SDSU in Brookings, South Dakota.
