Women's Basketball Adds a Pair of JUCO Sisters

OMAHA, Neb. - Head women's basketball coach Carrie Banks added a pair of sisters to the 2022-23 roster Friday morning. Polina Nikulochkina and Ana Nikulochkina. The twins played two seasons at Tallahassee Community College and bring some experience to the court this fall.
"Maverick fans are going to love watching Ana and Polina play," said Banks. "They are highly competitive kids that love the game and bring a lot of energy when they step on the court."
P. Nikulochkina was tabbed First Team All-Conference in both her seasons at Tallahassee CC. She was also named an All-Star in 2019-20. Last season, P. Nikulochkina averaged 14.3 ppg while shooting 40 percent from the field and 39.8 percent from long range. She scored a season-high 28 points on 9-of-22 from the field with five made threes vs. Gulf Coast State. It was one of 15 games in double-figures.
"Polina is a versatile guard that along with her sister, Ana, had a successful JUCO career," said Banks. "She is a good shooter with deep range and has the ability to get to the rim."
In 2019-20, P. Nikulochkina averaged a team-leading 16.2 ppg. She added 5.7 rpg, 2.2 spg, and 3.6 apg. She dropped a career-high 29 points shooting 7-of-11 from the field against Florida State College. She added six boards, four assists, and five steals in that meeting. It was one of seven games that season with at least 20 points.
"I chose Omaha because of the great coaching staff and a great program," said P. Nikulochkina. "I can't wait to get to work and be a Maverick."
A. Nikulochkina was also named a two-time All-Conference selection and named to the All-Star team. Last season, she averaged 13.3 ppg on 40 percent from the field and 41 percent from three-point range. A. Nikulochkina opened the year on a eight-game double-figure scoring streak. She scored over 20-points in two games during that stretch, including 25 points vs. South Georgia Technical.
"Ana is an experienced point guard that comes to us after playing in the highly competitive Panhandle Conference," said Banks. "She is a good shooter with deep range and a tenacious defender."
In 2019-20, A. Nikulochkina averaged 13.6 ppg while shooting over 30 percent from three-point range. She dropped a season-high 26 points at Pensacola State after finishing 10-of-11 at the charity stripe.
"I chose Omaha because they looked at me more than just a player but as someone who was part of their family," said A. Nikulochkina. "At the end of the day, it's bigger than basketball and with Omaha I feel like I'm coming home."
