Cross Country has Strong Race at Woody Greeno/Jay Dirsken Invite

The Omaha Mavericks Cross Country team wrapped up their second race of the season this afternoon at the Woody Greeno/Jay Dirksen Invite where they placed 10th in the 29 team 5K race field.
"It was a step in the right direction for our team today," Omaha head coach Cliff Cisar said. "We had some solid performances, as well as a few athletes who stepped into scoring positions that weren't there two weeks ago. Our number 4-6 runners were only separated by :04.1 seconds. Packs like that will be extremely valuable as the season moves along."
Freshman Kamryn Ensley and senior Maya Nachtigal finished first and second for the Mavericks today. 9th and 32nd overall respectively. Ensley ran 17:54.4 which is the third fastest 5K cross country time in Mavericks Division I era history while Nachtigal's 18:36.5 is the 8th fastest.
"Kamryn executed another great race today. She was in the top ten throughout the entire race and just followed that rhythm all the way to the finish line," Cisar said. "She has a great ability to hunker down and race calmly during periods of the race that get tough and that will pay dividends as the races get longer and more important as the season goes on."
Graduate transfer student Hanna Johnston had a special afternoon not only for Omaha, but for herself. Johnston finished 80th with a time of 19:34.8.
"Hanna is a grad transfer from Providence college who has experienced a really difficult last few years in the sport due to injuries. Today she completed her first collegiate cross country race since September 28th, 2018," Cisar said. "It was an unbelievable display of resilience, determination, and growth for her to get to this point and I know her crossing the finish line was symbolic of changing the page of a long journey she has taken to get to this point. I know Hanna and our team will cherish that moment for a long time."
