
Mavericks Climb To Third Place Finish At Weber State

Eden, Utah- The Omaha women's golf team lands on the podium as they climb two spots to take third place in the Kelsey Chugg Invitational at Weber State.Â
The Mavericks posted a team total of 291 in the third round, the best score across the field. That final round the Mavericks moved up two spots and into third place with a three-round total of 904. That 54-hole score is the best in program history. Omaha led the event with 40 birdies over three rounds. They fall four strokes behind Montana State, in second place with a score of 900. Creighton takes home the championship with a team score of 895.Â
Emily Karmazin ends the tournament with a 71 (-1) in the final round. The freshman sank five birdies in the third round, adding to her total of 13 birdies to lead the event. Karmazin finishes with a three-round total of 222 (+6), which ties the third-best 54-hole score in Maverick history.Â
Macarena Garcia finishes with a two-day total of 228 (+12). The freshman posted a 68 (-4) in the third round using four birdies to match the lowest single-round score in program history. The freshman takes home a share of 15th place. Just a stroke behind Garcia is Sydney Taake, who ends with a total score of 229. Taake ends in a tie for 18th place after scoring a 79 (+7) in Tuesday's final round.Â
Mika Miyata closes the tournament with a 74 (+2) in round three to take 29th place with a three-round score of 232. Three strokes behind Miyata is Nicole Hansen, who takes a share of 29th after scoring a 78 (+6) in the last round for a 54-hole total of 235. Golfing individually, Emma Kirvan ends in a tie for 64th place with a three-round score of 251. The sophomore recorded an 81 in the third round after sinking an eagle on hole two of round one in this event.Â
The Mavericks are back in action and back in town in two weeks for the Big O Classic. Omaha and Creighton join forces to put on a two-day, two-course event on Oct. 3-4. Â
