
Mavericks Host Big O Classic With Bluejays

Omaha, Neb.- The Omaha men's and women's golf teams, along with the Creighton golf teams, welcome 15 schools to the Big O Classic on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 3-4.
The men's side of the tournament will be played at Indian Creek golf course in Elkhorn, a par-72 course with a yardage of 7,242/7,151 from day one to day two. Twelve teams join the Mavericks and Bluejays at Indian Creek, including Dodge City CC, Hutchinson CC, Incarnate Word, Lindenwood, North Dakota, Northern Iowa, South Dakota, South Dakota St., SIUE, Southern Indiana, St. Thomas, and Western Illinois. Action begins with a shotgun-start at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, and 9:00 a.m. for the final round on Tuesday.
The women will play at Oak Hills Country Club in Omaha, a par-73 course measuring 5,952. The women's field consists of Cal St. Northridge, Lindenwood, Montana, Northern Iowa, St. Thomas, Western Illinois, Wichita St., and individuals from Iowa and Nebraska. Action from Oak Hills begins with tee times starting at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, and 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Those times have yet to be announced.
The Maverick men will play a qualifying round on Friday to determine Monday's lineup, but alongside the team-of-five will be five individuals.

Emily Karmazin gets the top spot after taking fourth place in the last event. The freshman recorded a three-round total of 222 at the Kelsey Chugg Invitational, tying the third-lowest 54-hole score in program history. Karmazin has had one under-par round in each of the first two events of the fall.
Macarena Garcia moves from No. 4 to No. 2 after matching the lowest single-round score in Maverick history with a 68 (-4) at the Kelsey Chugg Invitational. The freshman finished in 15th place with a two-day total of 228.
Sydney Taake finished in the top-20 in the last event and returns to the lineup for the Big O Classic. The sophomore finished in 18th place two weeks ago with a 54-hole score of 229. Mika Miyata looks to continue the trend of resetting her career-best three-round total. The junior entered the season with a career-low 54-hole score of 236, but in the first two events of the fall she has posted totals of 233 and 232, respectively.
Nicole Hansen remains in the lineup for the third-straight event. The graduate transfer posted a two-day total of 235 in the last event to take 39th place. Golfing individually are Maddie Simon and Emma Kirvan. The sophomores have each made one individual appearance in the first two events of the year. Maddie Simon recorded a 244 at the Payne Stewart Invitational, and Emma Kirvan notched a 251 at the last event, the Kelsey Chugg Invitational.
