Mavericks Hold Third After Two Rounds In Elkhorn

Elkhorn, Neb.- The Omaha men's golf team holds third place after two rounds at the Big O Classic on Monday.
"The team played solid all day, from start to finish," head coach Seth Porter said. "The guys worked on what we talked about in practice with getting a hot start, maintaining the momentum, and giving our team a chance (to win) going into the final round. Tomorrow, we need to come out strong, play a solid game, and let the chips fall where they may."
The Mavericks were off to a hot start on Monday, posting a team score of 287 in the first round to take the lead after the opening 18 holes. Omaha added 289 in the second round to take third with a day-one total of 576. They sit two strokes behind St. Thomas and SIUE, who share first with 574 through two rounds.
Connor Wilson used a 69 (-3) in the second round, climbing to seventh place to end the first day. The graduate student looks ahead to the final round on Tuesday with a two-round total of 141. Two strokes behind Wilson is Kurtis Rodriguez. Rodriguez also posted a 69 (-3), coming in the first round. The sophomore shares 10th place on the leaderboard after following up the –3 with a 74 (+2).
Mathew Halvorson shares 21st place with Noah Hartman, who is golfing individually. Halvorson and Hartman both notched totals of 146 after posting matching scores of 75 (+3) and 71 (-1) in the first two rounds.
Carter Doose and Nolan Johnson share 34th place on the leaderboard after both shot total scores of 148 on day one. Doose posted scores of 73 (+1) and 75 (+3) in the opening rounds, and Johnson improved 10 strokes from a 79 (+7) in the first round to a 69 (-3) in the second.
Tyler Eedy finishes rounds one and two with scores of 75 (+3) and 74 (+2). Eedy ends the first day in 46th place with a two-round total of 149. Christopher Atkinson finishes three strokes behind Eedy on day one with a total score of 152. Atkinson posted a 73(+1) in the first round and a 79 (+7) in the second.
Golfing individually, Josh Bartels and Jack Tickle finished with scores of 158 and 160 on the first day. Bartels recorded an 81 in the first round before improving to 77 (+5). Tickle also notched an 81 in round one, posting a 79 (+7) in round two.
