Fohr and Kisio to Faceoff in World Junior Classic Semifinal as Assistant Coaches

As we enter the semifinal round of the 2023 IIHF World Junior Classic, former players Nick Fohr and Brent Kisio are set to meet as assistant coaches in tonight's USA vs. Canada game.
Serving as an assistant coach with Team USA, Fohr appeared in 112 games for the Mavericks from 1999-2002. He tallied 11 goals and seven assists as a forward for Omaha. The Grand Forks, N.D. native served on the Omaha Hockey staff from 2004-2011, both as the Director of Operations, and then as an assistant coach. He then went to the US National Team Development Program in 2011, where he served as an assistant coach until the spring of 2022. He was named Head Coach of the US National Under-17 Team for the 2022-23 season. In November, the U-17's won the Five Nations Tournament in British Columbia. They followed that up the next month by winning the Four-Nations Tournament in Switzerland.
On the opposite bench, Brent Kisio is serving as an assistant coach for Team Canada. Also a member of the 100-games club, Kisio scored 11 goals and registered 17 assists as a four-year letterwinner with the Mavericks. The Calgary, Alberta native has been the head coach of the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the WHL since 2015. Kisio was an assistant for the Canadian National Junior team in 2019 at the Vancouver-Victoria games in Canada as well. The former Omaha forward led the Canadian U-18 National Junior Team to a gold medal as head coach for the 2017 Ivan Hlikna Memorial Cup, and has served on the staff of the Canadian National team for several other international amateur competitions.
The two former Mavericks will square off against each other on opposite benches this evening at 5:30 p.m. CT.
