
Mavericks Finish Fifth in Throwdown Up Top

Homer, Neb.-- The Omaha men's golf team finished day two of the Throwdown Up Top in fifth place after the final two rounds from Landmand Golf Club in Homer, Nebraska on Wednesday, Oct. 11.Â
The Mavericks scored 300 in both the second and third rounds to end the 54-hole event with a total score of 898. Omaha finished 20 strokes behind fourth-place St. Thomas, and two strokes ahead of sixth-place North Dakota. Creighton won the event with a team total of 841, and Bluejay Shaun Campbell earned the individual medal with a three-round total of 209.Â
Golfing individually in his second event of the season, Josh Peters was just nine strokes behind Campbell with a 54-hole score of 218, his best tournament score since the 2021-22 season. Peters scored 74 (+1) in the second round before using six birdies to score 69 (-4) in the final round. The graduate student earned eighth place overall for the fifth top-10 finish of his career.Â
Also golfing individually was Jack Tickle. Tickle scored 79 (+6) in round two and 71 (-2) in round three. The graduate student used five third-round birdies for a three-round total of 234 and a share of 51st place on the leaderboard in his second tournament of the fall.Â
Christopher Atkinson finished with a total score of 223. Atkinson scored matching rounds of 75 (+2) to close out the Throwdown Up Top tied for 16th place. The junior has finished the last three events in the top-20, taking 15th place at the SIUE Dolenc Invitational (Sept. 25-26) and seventh at the Big O Classic (Oct. 2-3). Â
Nolan Johnson scored 74 (+1) in the second round and 75 (+2) in the third round. Johnson finished with a share of 23rd place and a 54-hole score of 224. Austin Goodrum finished two strokes behind Johnson with a three-round total of 226. Goodrum earned 29th place after matching scores of 75 (+2) in the second and third rounds on Wednesday. Â
In his first road tournament with the Mavericks, Porter Topp finished with a total score of 229. Topp ended in a tie for 39th place after scores of 76 (+3) and 75 (+2) in rounds two and three, respectively. Connor Wilson scored 78 (+5) in the second round and 81 in the third for a two-day total of 233 and a share of 46th place.Â
Omaha has a week off before traveling to Powell's Point, N.C. for the final tournament of the fall season, the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate. Action from Kilmarlic Golf Club begins on Sunday, Oct. 22.Â
