
Mavericks Finish Abbreviated Big O Classic

Omaha, Neb.-- The Omaha women's golf team finished the Big O Classic in 12th place after the final round on Monday, Oct. 2.
The tournament was scheduled for 54 holes, but due to thunderstorms on Tuesday morning, round three was halted and eventually cancelled.
The Mavericks scored 329 in the first round at Oak Hills Country Club in Omaha, and finished day one with 325 in the second for a total score of 654. Omaha completes the 36-hole version of the Big O Classic in 12th place, two strokes behind 11th-place Idaho State. St. Thomas won the event with a total score of 599, and the Tommies' Nicki Reineke earned the individual medal with a two-round score of 147.
Nicole Hansen led the Mavericks with a two-round total of 159. Hansen scored 85 in the first round, improving with a 75 (+2) in round three to earn a share of 31st place on the leaderboard. Lavinia Romito was a stroke behind Hansen with a total score of 160. Romito scored 82 in round one and 78 (+5) in round two to tie in 36th place.
Emily Karmazin earned 57th place with a two-round score of 168. Karmazin shot 82 and 86 in the first two rounds, respectively. Macarena Garcia was a stroke behind Karmazin and finished with a share of 58th place. Garcia scored 83 in the first round and 86 in the second for a total of 169 at the Big O Classic. Sydney Taake finished in 64th place with a total score of 173.
Mika Miyata, Sarah Lasso and Emma Kirvan golfed individually at the Mavericks' home event of the fall. Miyata earned 46th place with a score of 162 over two rounds. Lasso scored 85 in her first round of collegiate golf and followed that up with an 84 in the second for a total score of 169 and a share of 58th place. Kirvan totaled 173 and earned 64th place overall.
The Mavericks travel to Illinois next week for the final event of the fall season. Omaha is scheduled to play the Loyola Parkinson Invitational in Chicago, Ill., on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 9-10.
