Mavericks Put Together Solid Outing in First Meet of the Indoor Season

The Omaha Mavericks 2023-24 Track and Field season is officially underway after completing the SDSU Holiday Invite and Multi meet yesterday in Brookings, South Dakota.
Emma Klein started off the 2023-2024 indoor season with a 6th place finish in the triple jump. Her distance of 36'11.5" was six inches farther than what she had jumped at the same competition last year.
For the jumps crew, a trio of new Mavericks all made the finals in the long jump. Freshman Shay Sinnard lead the way with a jump of 17'3.25" and 4th place even while coming from a short approach. Shona Julianna and Hannah Dunning finished 7th and 9th respectively.
Kaitlin Hellbusch started off her senior year with a 5'2.25 clearance in the high jump for a 6th place finish. Freshman Julia Niemeyer also cleared 5'2.25 in her Maverick debut.
Chloe Walker's sophomore season started with a bang as she threw a lifetime best of over three feet to finish with a distance of 45'11.25" in the weight throw. All of her competition throws bettered her farthest from her freshman year.
On the track, Junior transfer Jade Jackson made her Maverick debut by qualifying for finals in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.35, ultimately finishing in 8th place.
Also beginning their Maverick career was Freshman Avyn Urbanski who was the only Freshman to qualify for the 60m final round with a time of 7.87. She bettered that time in the finals with a 7.85 time for 8th place.
In the rarely contested but always fun 300m, Macy Persinger crossed the finish line in a lifetime best 42.14 bettered her previous fastest by a second and a half. Freshman Ava Robinson finished just ahead of Persinger with a time of 41.84.
In the final event of the day for the Mavericks, two athletes finished in the top 8. Urbanski came back after to finish 7th with a time of 26.12 while sophomore Tania Gleason crossed the line in 25.83 for 5th.
The Mavericks won't compete again until January 12 and 13 when they head to Lincoln to participate in the Graduate Classic.
