Track & Field to Compete at Jim Emmerich Invite

The Omaha Track and Field squad will make their regular season debut tomorrow at the Jim Emmerich Invite hosted by South Dakota State. Due to exceedingly poor weather conditions last weekend, Omaha was unable to make their true season debut at the Graduate Classic in Lincoln.
"With us unable to complete last weekend, we are looking forward to getting on the track," head coach Chris Richardson said. "This is a large meet with a lot of competitors so there will be lots of good competition for our team."
The Mavericks had a solid preseason outing at the SDSU Holiday Invite and Multi the first day of December. Omaha secured multiple top ten and top five finishes in the preseason meet. They'll look to carry over that energy into this weekend's regular season debut at the Graduate Classic.
Sophomore's Kamryn Ensley and Emma Klein were named Summit League Preseason Athletes to Watch in the 2024 preseason coaches poll.
Ensley, who specializes in distance races for the Mavericks, is coming off another solid cross country campaign. During last year's indoor season, the Clive, Iowa native set a career and personal best mark in the 3000m with a time of (10:06.65) at the Cyclone Open. While also at the Cyclone Open, Ensley posted a team best finish in the mile with a time of 5:03.10. At the Summit League indoor championships, the Sophomore distance runner tallied a fifth place finish in the distance medley running to a time of 12:15.46.
Sophomore jumper Emma Klein looks to continue the solid start to her Maverick career this 2023-24 season. Klein owns the best triple jump leap for the Mavericks with a jump of 11.64m. That jump was good for ninth at the League championships last year. Klein also won the triple jump at the Cyclone open with a jump of 11.56 meters. Lastly, The Gower, Missouri native captured an 11th place finish at the Nebraska Tune-Up meet with a leap of 5.14 meters.
Tomorrow's action gets underway at 12:00 p.m. with the men's and women's mile.
