Scouting the Texas Tech Red Raiders
The Red Raiders are coming off just their second loss of the season as they were beaten 103-95 at Butler in overtime on November 30. Prior to the defeat they were 5-1 on the season, including a 73-57 rout of Michigan and a 73-64 victory over Omaha's next opponent Texas A&M - Corpus Christi.
Texas Tech's leading scorers are senior guard Joe Toussaint (105 points, 15.0 ppg) and sophomore guard Pop Isaacs (100 points, 14.3 ppg). Toussaint also leads the team in FGM (34), FTM (27), FT% (.931) and assists (30), while Isaacs is right behind him with 31 FGM, 25 FTM, and 20 assists.
Defensively, Texas Tech is led by sophomore guard Darrion Williams, who paces the team with nine steals and is second in rebounds with 53, and senior forward Warren Washington, who is first in blocks with nine and rebounds with 54.
Head Coach Grant McCasland is in his first year leading the Red Raiders. He previously spent six years at the helm of North Texas, going 135-65 with an NIT title three C-USA titles, and a C-USA Coach of the Year award. McCasland began his career as Texas Tech's director of operations from 1999-2001.

- The Mavericks continued their undefeated streak at Baxter Arena as they defeated Bellevue 78-59 to move to 4-0 at home this season and 7-1 in their last eight home non-conference game since last year.

- Marquel Sutton led the Mavericks on Thursday with his first career double-double after recording season highs in points (22) and rebounds (13). He was 7-for-9 on the day and also went 7-for-12 from the stripe. This performance marked the second time in Sutton's career that he scored at least 20 points in a game, and was also his second ever double-digit rebounding game.
- Frankie Fidler dropped 12 points vs. Bellevue to earn his 50th career double-digit scoring game. Going 8-for-10 on free throws, he increased his FT% to an even .800 (44-for-55) on the year.
- Marcel Bryant is also coming into his own now after recording the first two double-digit scoring games of his career last week. He shot a combined 8-for-11 with two 3-PT FGs and three free throws vs. York and Bellevue for 21 points in total. He also had seven rebounds and two steals. Bryant is also the ninth Maverick this year to score double-digits in a game.
- Tony Osburn now has nearly a third of Omaha's total three pointers this season after recording 12 last week to give him 23 on the season. His 41 points last week are the most he has ever scored in any two-game span, buoyed by his record-breaking 32-point performance vs. York in which he set the program record for threes in a game with nine. His scoring average went from 6.7 ppg before last week to 9.8 ppg entering this week.
- With a season-high five assists vs. Bellevue, Grant Stubblefield has moved into a three-way tie with Fidler and JJ White for the team lead in assists with 20.
- Overall, in their three-game homestand, the Mavericks outscored their opponents 258 (86.0 ppg) to 186 (62.0 ppg) and outshot them .514 (89-for-173) to .385 (65-for-169). Omaha also held a massive edge in rebounds, besting the opposition 119 (39.7 rpg) to 87 (29.0 rpg).
- Grant Stubblefield, Marcel Bryant, Nick Davis, and Biko Johnson are Omaha's top newcomers coming into this season.
- Stubblefield was named 6A Player of the Year and First Team All-State while at Blue Valley Northwest and Bryant was named the Austin Area Player of the Year at Cedar Ridge. Johnson is coming off his second season at Western Nebraska CC where he was named All-Conference and All-Nebraska, while Davis is fresh off winning GAC Defensive Player of the Year and a trip to the Sweet 16 of the Division II NCAA Tournament with Southern Nazarene.
