Tychonick Tabbed as Week 20 NCHC Defenseman of the Week

Omaha Mavericks blueliner Jonny Tychonick has been named NCHC Defenseman of the Week for Week 20. It's the second time (Week 9) this season Tychonick has been tabbed with the weekly conference award.
Helping the No.14 Mavericks take five of six NCHC points and sweep the Miami RedHawks last weekend, Tychonick tallied one goal, two assists, nine shots on goal, four blocks and was a plus-3 in two games played. His assist on Saturday night came in the overtime frame where the Mavericks needed only 18 seconds to net the OT winner against the RedHawks and complete a comeback after trailing 2-0, earlier in the game.
The Calgary, Alberta native is currently third on the team in points with 24. Tychonick, who is riding a three-game point streak, has put up career bests so far this season with his eight goals and 16 assists. Among NCHC defensemen, Tychonick's 24 points puts him fifth.
This is the ninth NCHC weekly award for the Mavericks this season. Tychonick joins forwards Ray Fust (Week 15) and Matt Miller (Week 9), blueliner Jacob Guevin (Week 16), along with netminders Jake Kucharski (Week 3, 9) and Simon Latkoczy (Week 19 Rookie of the Week). Omaha has won a weekly award in five of the last six weeks. The one week they did not have a winner (Jan. 30 - Feb. 5) they were idle and did not play.
