No. 6 Omaha Takes on No. 3 North Dakota in the Summit League Tournament

The No. 6 Omaha Mavericks will take on the No. 3 North Dakota Fighting Hawks this Sunday at 3 p.m. in Sioux Falls, S.D. in the 2023 Summit League Tournament. Both squads earned a first-round bye in the tournament.

The Fighting Hawks come into the tournament as the No. 3 seed at 18-10 overall and 11-7 in the conference. They had a chance to finish second overall, entering the final day of the regular season riding a six-game winning streak, but they were narrowly defeated by St. Thomas 74-68 in the season finale. Against Omaha this year, North Dakota has won both contests by a combined score of 144-124, outshooting the the Mavericks overall at .437 (55-for-126) to .385 (42-for-109).
Senior guard Kacie Borowicz was named First Team All-Summit this year after finishing first in the league in assists (134), second in scoring (564 points, 20.1 PPG), third in FT% (.862), and seventh in FG% (.412). She led the Fighting Hawks in scoring in both games against Omaha this year with 18 and six assists in their first meeting and 24 points and four assists in the second.
Graduate student guard/forward Clair Orth made the All-Defensive team with 93 defensive rebounds (143 total), 39 steals, and 12 blocks. On offense, she scored 310 points (11.1 PPG) and shot 125-for-245 (.514). Against the Mavericks this season, Orth had seven rebounds and four assists, along with 13 points.

Fighting Hawk to lead the team. She currently owns a 35-44 career record. This is the second-straight year Bernhard has led UND to the tournament, falling 61-54 to Oral Roberts in the first round last season.
All-Time Against North Dakota
The Mavericks trail North Dakota 11-53 in the all-time series, including two losses in the regular season this year. Both losses came immediately following a three-game win streak for Omaha. Across both games, Pilakouta led the Mavericks with 21 points and had 13 rebounds, followed by Grant with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Stanley (16 points), Morgann Gardner (14), Polina Nikulochkina (12), and Sam Mitchel (10) all scored double-digit points in the season series.Ā
