Baseball Set for Tuesday Game with Crosstown Rival Creighton

The Mavericks (3-8) return home this week to kick off a four-game home stand, starting with a Tuesday night game with crosstown rival Creighton (4-5) at 5:30 p.m. at Tal Anderson Field.

Creighton enters this week at 4-5 after suffering back-to-back losses to Cal State Northridge. Before that, the Bluejays had won both of their first two series this year against McNeese State and Coastal Carolina.
Two Bluejays are currently batting above .300: Nolan Clifford (.371) and Nolan Sailors (.314). Both also have OPSs above 1.000, with Clifford at 1.007 and Sailors at 1.044. Jack Grace leads the team with a 1.115 OPS thanks to a .760 slugging percentage and four home runs. Along with Andrew Meggs, these four are all tied for the club lead with nine RBIs, accounting for 36 of the team's 53 runs batted in.
Bluejays ace Ryan Windham is off to a torrid start on the mound, owning a 1.17 ERA with 13 strikeouts in three starts. Justin Kleinsorge is also having a solid beginning to his season, producing a 4.40 ERA and leading the team with 15 strikeouts. Paul Bergstrom is currently Creighton's top reliever on account of his 4.15 ERA and nine punch outs.
Head Coach Ed Servais is the winningest coach in Creighton baseball history at 622-368-1, while his career record of 804-450-2 is 21st in the nation among all Division I coaches. During his 20-year tenure with the Bluejays, he has led them to six NCAA Tournaments.

- After dropping the first two games of the series against BYU, the Mavericks improved to 3-8 after a massive 16-4 victory in the seven-inning series finale. Due to the Mavericks having to travel home that day, both teams decided ahead of the game to end it if either one had a 10-run lead by the seventh.
- Those 16 runs and 17 hits were both the most the Mavericks have put up in a single game since February 19, 2022 at San Jose State (15 runs, 19 hits).
- Omaha nearly won the first game of the series as well, erasing a six-run deficit to tie it up at 11-11 and force extra innings.
- Omaha scored 31 runs during their series at BYU, almost doubling their total run production through their first eight games this season.
- The Mavericks recorded 13 doubles in the BYU series, knocking six each in the first and last games. Overall, the team had 16 XBH. Haiden Hunt, Eddie Satisky, Mike Boeve, Brennen Bales, and Eduardo Rosario all had two doubles during the series.
- Boeve increased his batting average .487 on the year and also extended his hitting streak to 11 games to start the season. This is now the second longest streak of his career. His two doubles in the series give him 45 in his career, tied for the fifth most ever by a Maverick.
- Rosario had a standout performance on Saturday, notching a career-high seven RBIs, the most by any Maverick since Chris Esposito against Mizzou back on February 27, 2021. He leads the Mavericks with three home runs this year, having launched two during the series.
- Rosario (eight), Boeve (seven), and Satisky (six) combined for 21 of Omaha's 31 total runs during the series. Satisky and Boeve also came around to score six runs each, followed by Hunt and Bales with five runs apiece.
- On the mound, Luke Gainer struck out three batters in his lone outing at BYU, giving him three in all four of his appearances this season.
- Caleb Riedel struck out eight batters in the first game one. This is tied for the second most strikeouts he has ever recorded in a single game.
