Omaha Erases Three Deficits to Down No. 4 UND in OT

The Omaha Mavericks erased three deficits to down No. 4 North Dakota 5-4 in overtime tonight to take this weekend's road series opener.
It took just 34 seconds for Jack Randl to bury the overtime winner. Randl cleaned up a Nolan Krenzen rebound out front of the UND cage for his sixth goal of the campaign and team leading second OT goal this year.
North Dakota got things started quickly tonight as they scored the game's opening goal just 10 seconds in. Omaha would answer back almost as fast as Zach Urdahl sniped the equalizer home 71 seconds later. After the opening 20, the Mavericks found themselves down 3-1 after a pair of UND power play goals.
Omaha buried two goals in the opening 3:57 of the 2nd period from Matt Miller and Brock Bremer. With 9:09 left in the 2nd period, North Dakota took their third lead of the night capitalizing on a 2-on-1 odd-man rush.
That lead once again wouldn't last long as Ty Mueller rifled home a one-timer on the power play to even things at 4-4 with 7:04 left in the 2nd period.
A key point in the game came with 11:33 remaining in regulation. The Mavericks would have to kill a five-minute major power play and they did just that. With 94 seconds left in the man-advantage, Victor Mancini drew a hooking minor to end the extended UND power play.
Omaha and North Dakota will wrap up the series tomorrow night from Ralph Engelstad Arena. Puck drop slated for 6:07 p.m.
