Men's Tennis Wraps Up Competition at ITA Regionals

TULSA, Okla. - The Mavericks concluded competition in the 2024 ITA Division I Central Regional Championship which ran from Wednesday-Sunday and featured players from 12 schools.
Beginning with Wednesday's singles qualifiers, Pavan Uppu recovered from an opening set loss to Jonathan Evans from Oral Roberts by taking the next two to claim Omaha first win of the regional (5-7, 7-5, 6-3). He would fall 6-4, 6-1 to Rocky McKenzie of Creighton in the Round of 64.
In the main singles draw, Bryan Kuntz, Ethan Gaubert, and Mikhail Korkunov all competed for Omaha. Kuntz kicked things off with a comeback victory over Arenui Luethi from Wichita State (4-6, 6-2, 6-4), before being bested 6-4, 6-2 in the Round of 32 by Oklahoma's Oscar Lacides.
Gaubert and Korkunov were both defeated in the opening round (7-5, 6-3 and 3-6, 6-3, 6-4). The two would each bounce back and in the consolation round, with Korkunov winning in straight sets against Alejandro Jacome from Wichita State (6-3, 6-4) and Gaubert likewise topping Saint Louis' Luca Lo nardo 6-3, 6-4. Both would withdraw in the Round of 16, however.
In doubles play, Gaubert and Uppu were bested in the opening round 8-5 against the duo from Oral Roberts. Omaha's other doubles team of Korkunov and Kuntz had a first-round bye and advanced directly to the Round of 32 where they fell 9-8 (7-5) in a tiebreaker against their opponents from Oklahoma.
