Hockey claims first shutout of the season against Miami

OMAHA, Neb. – Omaha Hockey (4-7-0, 2-3-0 NCHC) picked up its first home victory of the season, 3-0 over the visiting Miami RedHawks (3-10-2, 0-5-0 NCHC) on the same night it earned its first shutout in 2024-25.
Junior goaltender Simon Latkoczy made his 10th start of the season and put away 24 Miami shots on goal to keep a zero on the board.
Latkoczy was the only NCHC goaltender to complete a shutout on Friday night.
Omaha pushed its three goals through tonight, with one coming in during each regulation period.
The Mavericks opened the scoring on the evening at 3:10 into the first period with freshman forward Myles Hilman taking a pass in the top right circle from junior defenseman Jacob Guevin and ripping a shot from the near center of the circle forcing its way past freshman goaltender Ethan Dahlmeir to make it 1-0.
Hilman's first career point pushed momentum for Omaha, which put up a game-high 13 shots in the first period and held Miami to only six shots in the opening period.
The Mavericks outshot the RedHawks 32-24 in the effort throughout the game.
Omaha pushed its second goal through in the middle frame when junior forward Cam Mitchell tagged along as junior graduate forward Sam Stange led him in a two-on-one situation while shorthanded. Stange then completed a half spin cycle in front of the right side of the crease and completed a beautiful feed to Mitchell, who put it on the net. However, Mitchell missed and grabbed his first rebound to bury it and give the Mavericks their third shorthanded goal of the season, which ties Arizona State for the most in the NCHC.
Finally, in the third period, freshman forward Chase LaPinta took a 3-0 lead 6:47 into the third period by grabbing the puck and carrying it to get a look from the right side of the cage, which slipped through Dahlmeir to add padding for the Mavericks.
Stange and Guevin recorded multipoint games by each tallying two assists in the win. Graduate defenseman Aiden Gallacher picked up his first point in a Maverick sweater on the 3-0 goal from LaPinta.
Omaha is back in action tomorrow night at 7:07 p.m. in its series finale against Miami.
