Omaha Baseball Brings in Six Newcomers

OMAHA, Neb. - Bringing in talent from as close by as Papillion to as far away as Italy, the Omaha Baseball team announced the signing of six newcomers today: high schoolers Cooper Fiskewold, Brycen Botos, Alexandre Laurence, and Christopher Coy, JUCO transfer Isaak Crittenden, and Italian star Edoardo Cornelli.
Cooper Fiskewold - OF/INF/RHP
"Cooper is an extremely talented and versatile two-player out of St. Francis HS in Minnesota. He is the #2 OF in MN but can play infield as well as run it into the low 90's on the mound. With his big bat and elite tools he will have a chance to make a big impact as a position player as well as pitcher. Can't wait for him to be a Mav."
Coming to us from Saint Francis, Minnesota, Cooper will be the latest two-way player to join Omaha next year. Lettering in each season with Saint Francis High School, he posted elite numbers in 2024 with a 1.35 ERA with 41 strikeouts on the mound and a .410/526/.738 slash line with four home runs and 27 RBIs at the plate.
Brycen Botos - RHP
"Brycen is one of the top RHP in the state from Papillion South. He has electric stuff, up to low 90's this summer, and can really spin a breaking ball. Couldn't be more excited to keep Brycen home and have him on campus."
Alexandre Laurence - OF/INF/C
"Alexandre Laurence - Alex comes from the same academy as current Maverick catcher, Cardel Dick. Alex is a multi-faceted player that can play middle infield, outfield, and catch at a high level. He hits for power and average, and we are excited to have him in Omaha to be a middle of the order bat for the Mavs."
Playing out of the same high school that 2024 Omaha Baseball breakout freshman Cardel Dick came from (Vauxhall Academy), Alex is likewise a skilled catcher and utility man from Canada. Boasting plus power and elite pop time from behind the dish, he will look to join his countryman as a key member of Omaha's lineup in the future.
Chris Coy - INF/RHP
"Chris is a talented 2-way player out of Saint Joe, Mo. He is an All-State infielder/pitcher and led his team to the Missouri state championship game this past year. Chris can pitch and hit at a high level, and we cannot wait to have him on campus and see him contribute immediately as a Maverick."
Rounding out the group of high schoolers is another two-way player and one of the top all-around prospects from Missouri. Chris was First Team All-Conference (MEC) First Team All-City (St. Joseph), and First Team All-District (Class 4 MO) in all three years of his high school career so far. Last year as a junior, he took a massive leap forward and was also named First Team All-State, Infielder of the Year (Class IV), and Area Athlete of the Year. Thanks to his efforts, his school also became District Champions, Sectional Champions, and State Championship Runner Up after going 32-4 last season.Â
In his last two seasons, Chris has posted a .419Â AVG and a .507 AVG, 80 total RBIs, and 40 stolen bases as a hitter, while owning a 1.1 ERA and a 0.75 ERA and a combined 14-0 record as a pitcher.Â
Isaak Crittenden - RHP
"Isaak is a RHP from Gentry, Arkansas and currently at Fort Scott CC. He was a top performer for FSCC last year and will be an ace in the rotation again for them this year. He will be bringing extensive college experience, track record of success, and a bulldog mentality to go with his great arsenal up to 94. Really excited to have Isaak in our program."
The lone JUCO transfer of the group, Isaak comes to Omaha by way of Gentry, Arkansas. He spent the last year with Fort Scott CC in Kansas where he made 14 appearances with 11 starts on the mound. In that time he tossed 53.0 innings with a 3.74 ERA and 62 strikeouts (10.53 K/9). He also threw one complete game in an 8-2 win over Neosho County on May 1, 2024.
Edoardo Cornelli - INF
"Edoardo is arguably the top position player from Europe. He has played in the U18 World Cup, hitting leadoff for Italy's National Team. He is a high-level defender at SS and has a professional approach at the plate. We are thrilled to have Edo be a top of the order bat for the Mavericks."
Last but not least is the international star out of Lodi, Italy, Edoardo Cornelli. A speedy shortstop with excellent bat to ball and on-base skills, Edoardo had a busy 2022 season, being selected as one of the 30 players invited by MLB in Arizona for the International Showcase. That same year he represented Team Italy for the u18 World Cup in Florida and in the u18 European Championship.
In 2023, he was again chosen by MLB for the International Showcase, as well as being selected as one of the 90 top players from Europe invited by MLB to play in London. He would be invited back again in 2024 while also competing in the European Champions Cup and winning the u18 European Championship.
