No. 19 Mavericks Special Teams Shines in Comeback Victory over No. 14 WMU

The No. 19 Omaha Mavericks come up with a big two NCHC road points tonight after taking care of the No. 14 Western Michigan Broncos in overtime.
At 2:31 of the overtime frame, Zach Urdahl corralled the puck behind the WMU cage, made a power move to the low slot and turned and fired his second game winning goal of the season top corner. Urdahl's eighth goal of the year was assisted by Brock Bremer and Victor Mancini.
The Broncos jumped out to a 1-0 lead tonight 4:24 into the game. A little over four minutes later, Matt Miller evened the contest at 1-1 tipping a shot from the point home just five seconds into a power play attempt. Miller's man advantage tally was assisted by both Ludtke brothers.
WMU would take a 2-1 lead into the second and third period after capitalizing on a breakaway at 14:28 of the first period.
With 9:35 left in regulation, Omaha captain Nolan Sullivan retrieved a loose puck in the slot and buried the game tying goal on a power play to help force overtime.
It can't be overstated how huge the penalty kill was tonight for the Mavericks. Omaha held the nation's 13th ranked power play scoreless in five attempts. On top of going 5-for-5, Omaha killed not one but two 5-on-3 Bronco power plays. One of which was a full two minutes for WMU. In total, the Mavericks killed 3:20 of 5-on-3 hockey.
The Mavericks will break for a well-earned bye week next week before welcoming Colorado College to Baxter Arena for their penultimate home series of the regular season, Feb. 23-24.
