Scouting the Kansas City Roos
Kansas City began its week with an 82-78 win at South Dakota to improve 13-15 overall and 7-6 in the Summit League, sitting just ahead of Omaha in the standings.
Eight different Roos have at least 100 points and four are scoring at least 10 ppg, led by junior guard Jamar Brown who is in the top 10 in the league with 419 points and 15.0 ppg. Brown's 168 rebounds and 6.0 rpg also place him in the top 10, while his .456 FG% is fifth overall.
Graduate student guard Khristion Courseault paces the Roos with 119 assists (second in the league) on top of averaging 10.5 ppg. Meanwhile, forwards Allen David Mukeba Jr. and Jeff Nandu are both top 10 in the league in blocks with 25 and 21, respectively.
Marvin Menzies is in his second year leading the Roos following three years heading up UNLV's program and nine years at the helm of New Mexico State before that. He has led five different squads to the NCAA Tournament, all during his time at NMSU. He left the Aggies with the third-best winning percentage in WAC history, a 2014-15 WAC Coach of the Year Award, and seven total WAC Regular Season and Tournament Titles.

After falling just short of the comeback against the Roos earlier this year in a 74-72 loss, Omaha is now 10-10 all-time and 9-9 in the Division I era vs. Kansas City. Five Mavericks scored double figures vs. Kansas City back in January, led by Sutton with 21 points, while Cameron Faas head up the Roos offense with 15 points.

Quick Hits
- The Mavericks played their closest game yet in their home finale vs. ORU on Thursday, taking the lead with under 10 minutes left and holding off a last-second comeback from the Golden Eagles to win 71-70.
- With this win, Omaha beat the Golden Eagles for the first time since the 2019-20 season. It also improved the Mavericks to 11-3 at home this year, giving them the best home record in the conference.
- Thursday was also Senior Night, with Nick Davis being Omaha's lone honoree. He put on a show in his last ever game at Baxter Arena, scoring 16 (his second most this year), and blocking two shots. With 36 blocks on the season, he is now third in single-season blocks in the program's Division I history.
- Frankie Fidler made the most of the home finale, recording his second double-double in a row with 16 points and 13 boards. He also became the eighth Maverick ever to top 1400 career points. With 564 points on the season, he is now only 14 points away from tying Zach Jackson's team record for the most single-season points in the DI era.
- Marquel Sutton had another highly efficient game, shooting 8-for-12 for a team-leading 19 points. This was his ninth game this year with a FG% above .600.
- Omaha is the No. 1 team in the league in FT% at .745 (491-for-656).
- Grant Stubblefield, Marcel Bryant, Nick Davis, and Biko Johnson are Omaha's top newcomers coming into this season.
- Stubblefield was named 6A Player of the Year and First Team All-State while at Blue Valley Northwest and Bryant was named the Austin Area Player of the Year at Cedar Ridge. Johnson is coming off his second season at Western Nebraska CC where he was named All-Conference and All-Nebraska, while Davis is fresh off winning GAC Defensive Player of the Year and a trip to the Sweet 16 of the Division II NCAA Tournament with Southern Nazarene.
- Fidler was Omaha's lone All-Summit honoree last season, earning an Honorable Mention. He led Omaha in scoring (14.7 ppg), rebounding (5.8 rpg), steals (1.2 spg), and free throw percentage (.887), with his FT% in particular ranking in the NCAA's top-25 for most of the season.
- Head Coach Chris Crutchfield has a 33-47 career record. It marks his third season as a head coach and second with the Mavericks.
